Ranger Pro Clark Wendlandt Wins FLW Tour Event on Potomac River
Texas angler collects $125,000 prize with fourth career FLW Tour winFLIPPIN, ARK (June 30, 2015) A year removed from a potentially career-ending heart attack that forced him to sit out the second half of the 2014 FLW Tour season, Ranger Pro Clark Wendlandt is back to his old tricks: catching bass and winning tournaments.
Wendlandt collected the fourth FLW Tour win of his esteemed professional bass fishing career during the 2015 regular-season finale on the Potomac River. The Leander, Texas, native brought a five-bass limit to the scales on each of the event's four days to finish with an even 60 pounds on his way to a $125,000 payday and a fitting conclusion to his comeback season.
"For a long time now since the heart attack I've felt fine," said Wendlandt, who logged three Top-20 finishes during the 2015 FLW Tour regular season. "There is some damage, but I went through rehab and got my heart back up to normal limits. I still love to fish and this season has been really, really good."
With the win, Wendlandt, who bested a Top-10 field that included eight Ranger Pros, took home the $100,000 first-place prize from FLW Outdoors as well as the $25,000 Ranger Cup bonus. Already a three-time FLW Tour Angler of the Year winner (1997, 2000, 2009), Wendlandt's Potomac River win catapulted him to 18th in this year's Angler of the Year standings, qualifying him for his 16th Forrest Wood Cup.
"I love Lake Ouachita and I can't wait to get there for the Forrest Wood Cup," Wendlandt said. "I feel like I've got some momentum right now and I'm excited for the opportunity to fish for a half a million dollars."
The 2015 Forrest Wood Cup will run August 20-23 on Arkansas' Lake Ouachita with daily weigh-ins slated for Bank of the Ozarks Arena in Hot Springs, Ark.
"Clark is a tremendous angler and has been a valuable ambassador for Ranger and the sport of fishing for many years," said Ranger Boats Vice President of Marketing Bart Schad. "We've been especially proud to see his success this year and honestly it couldn't happen for a better guy. His victory was a great way to culminate the 2015 season and we look forward to another great event at Ouachita."
