Ranger Pro Skeet Reese Wins Bassmaster Elite at Lake Guntersville

California native captures $100,000 payday, 8th career B.A.S.S. victory

FLIPPIN, ARK. (April 14, 2015) Ranger pro Skeet Reese, like most of the field at Lake Guntersville last week, arrived with a solid plan heading into the tournament's official practice period. The only problem was, the fish weren't cooperating. So Reese, one of the most decorated anglers in B.A.S.S. history, scrapped his game plan, picked up a 7-inch Basstrix swimbait and rode it to one the most improbable wins of his career.

The victory, Reese's eighth B.A.S.S. title and second on Lake Guntersville, came complete with a $100,000 payday plus a $5,000 Ranger Cup bonus for running his Ranger Z521C Comanche.

Reese, a California native well versed with throwing big swimbaits, was turned onto the bite at Guntersville from good friend and travel partner Byron Velvick. "You just couldn't have scripted this any better," said Reese. "I had a really tough practice. I was going out with the anticipation of catching 13 to 14 pounds a day - unless maybe I could find a big bite and come in with 16 to 17. But Byron turned me on to a bait, and it evolved into something special, a win."

Reese never led over the event's first three days of competition, but consistently brought five fish limits to the weigh-in stand each day to finish with 92 pounds, 11 ounces. He targeted a variety of cover with the swimbait, both shallow and deep, and ultimately caught fish in all three phases of the spawn.

"This was just an incredible tournament," Reese said. "At the beginning of the week, I didn't think a win was in the cards. But things worked out and topping it off with the Ranger Cup bonus is awesome. It's my first win running a Ranger and I love the extra space and added performance. My Z521C is the biggest, baddest machine there is."

"Skeet is such a competitor and a great ambassador for Ranger," said Ranger Boats Vice President of Marketing Bart Schad. "We're proud to have him on board and congratulate him on such an impressive win."

In total, 5 of the top 12 anglers at Guntersville were members of the Ranger Pro Staff. The Bassmaster Elite Series visits the Sacramento River April 30 - May 3 for the third stop of the 2015 schedule.
