Ranger Pro Jacob Powroznik Wins B.A.S.S. Elite Series Rookie of the Year Award

Virginia angler caps off award-winning season with tournament win

FLIPPIN, ARK. (September 29, 2014) Already an established pro on the FLW Tour, Ranger Pro Jacob Powroznik added to his growing list of professional accomplishments on the B.A.S.S. Elite Series when he won the tour's 2014 Rookie of the Year Award.

Coming into the 2014 B.A.S.S. Elite Series season, Powroznik already had more than $900,000 in career earnings to his credit fishing the FLW Tour. In his first season of B.A.S.S. competition, the Port Haywood, Va., angler notched his first regular-season tour-level victory, in May on Toledo Bend Reservoir, and qualified for the 2015 Bassmaster Classic. His successful and consistent season, which saw him miss only one Top-50 cut, culminated with a convincing win in the B.A.S.S. Rookie of the Year points race and a win at the season-ending Bassmaster Angler of the Year Championship, which he won on September 24.

“We've enjoyed watching Jacob compete for many years at the professional level and it's exciting for us to see him achieving such great success on the Elite Series,” said Ranger Boats President Randy Hopper. “We congratulate him on an incredible rookie season and hope to see him hoisting more trophies in the future.”

The 36-year-old Powroznik also finished third in the 2014 Elite Series Angler of the Year race and is one of 14 first-year Elite Series anglers qualified for next year's Bassmaster Classic, a list that includes fellow Ranger Pros Randall Tharp and Brett Hite.

“Everyone of us could have won Rookie of the Year. This was a tough field,” Powroznik said. “It means a lot to win this award. It's something I'll remember my whole life.”
